Tatran remain on top with a big revenge in Brest
Татран остается на вершине после реванша в Бресте
Tatran have managed to take their revenge against Meshkov Brest beating them in one of SEHA Gazprom League’s biggest derbies with 31:23 only two days after a tough loss in Champions League.
This victory enlarges Slovak team’s winning streak to 6 with two important victories in it - this one and the one against PPD Zagreb last month. Coach rastislav Trtik had his heroes for the day in middle back Vasja Furlan being all over the court with 10 goals from 11 shots along with remarkable Igur Chupryna between bars with 19 saves (18+1).
Meshkov were from the very beginning not able to find their rhytm despite being clear favorites before the match. Tatran opened the match strongly with 1:4 allowing Meshkov to come close from time to time and then enlarging the gap with furious scoring streaks. Meshkov have for the last time managed to equalize little more than a minute before the end of the first half at 12:12 but unfortunately for home fans Tatran were in front after first 30 minutes scoring 2 easy goals for 12:14.
Hosts were able to stay around for 10 more minutes into the second half but then Tatran proved why they are on League’s top cruising towards bigger difference. Interesting is that final result is the biggest advantage guests have managed to create in today’s match proving to be in good form even after tough CL’s loss little more than 48 hours ago.
Besides Furlan, Antl was once again too fast for opposition defense scoring 5 goals from which 4 were in the second half when the difference was made. Razgor, Tioumentsev and Kristopans have 4 each for Meshkov.
Tatran have with a new, ninth victory reached 27 points enlarging the gap between them and Belarus champions which are now 6 points down with 7 victories and 3 defeats.
Rastislav Trtik, Tatran’ coach:
I am very happy with the result. We’ve improved our performance comparing it to Saturday’ game. Сhupryna showed amazing skills making this victory possible. We also have to be honest and say that Meshkov were in some moments of the match a bit unlucky but that’s sport.
Viacheslav Sadovyi , Tatran’s player:
It was a hard match little more than 48 hours after our CL’s clash in which we’ve suffered a tough loss. Our opponent appears to be stronger than we are but we’ve analyzed them well and improved our defensive performance. We’re really happy to win this.
Sergii Bebeshko, Meshkov' coach:
No one likes to lose with such goal difference. I can't on the other side say that we've played bad today but we should have scored more goals missing so many clear chances. We've tried 4-2 defense in the second half trying to speed up the tempo which has, unfortunately for us, led to too many technical mistakes to keep up with such an opponent. I feel like players were not completely focused on this encounter thinking about the match on Saturday but this was a completely different story.
Simon Razgor, Meshkov’ player:
Congrats to Tatran on an excellent performance. That’s sport, we now have to forget about this match as soon as possible and do everything in order to prepare for Saturday’ CL clash in a right way.
